Borgo Perspectives on Intercultural Communication
Culture and Identity (2012)

The differences between ethnic groups within a society, especially those
between the host culture and the cultures of immigrant minorities, tend
to be deep-seated. The situation is not so much one of multiculturalism
as one of multivaluism. The challenge is then to find a degree of
integration that will nevertheless enable harmonious social relations.
This will entail compromises having to be made on both sides (and it
will be the members of incoming groups who will be obliged to make the
principal concessions, a point that multiculturalists have found
extraordinarily difficult to understand). Whatever solution is reached
will need to allow for the retention of identity-giving cultural features and religious beliefs, keeping the charm of "exotic" cultural difference alive, and providing suitable conditions for constructive but also synergistic cooperation. A fascinating and instructive anthology of essays by authors from Britain, Egypt, Germany, India, Ireland and Mexico. No student of ethnography, sociology, or ethnic studies will want to miss this book!

 India / Diversity (2017)
Ed. Hilda David & Francis Jarman
"The more you look around the world, at the chaos, conflict, horror and repression in the name of religious ideology, not least in lands very close to India, the more you realise how Nehru, for all his imperfections, got the biggest question right. Now that India is finally positioning itself for a spectacular economic takeoff, it is not the right time to endanger that by opening the can of worms that is communalism."

The contributors: Armene Modi, Arshia Sattar, Arundhathi Subramaniam, C. Joel Gnanadoss Timothy, Dibyajyoti Sarma, Francis Jarman, Gayatri Pagdi, Githa Hariharan, Hilda David, Jerry Pinto, Manju Ramanan, Meena Kandasamy, M. H.
